Kouichirou Taninami's talk at the Game Developer's Conference, "The Localization of Counter-Strike in Japan", featured on Gamasutra (no registration required, I think) is quite an interesting read. For example:

"The characters are gritty, burly, and not particularly appealing – so Namco got an artist to anime them up a little, replacing sweaty gringos with guys in primary-colored spandex and PVC shoulderpads, and hairy guys in fatigues and ski masks with antigravity-busted women in three square inches of purple nylon."

Time for some numbers on Powerup - below is the Norwegian statistics of PC- and console-gaming for 2005, shown for age/gender. The table from Norwegian Statistics show many percent has played a PC or a console game ('TV-spill') on a given (presumably random) day.
