Killer 7

According to Terry Eagleton's introduction to literary theory, if someone approaches you at the bus stop and says "Though still unravished bride of quietness", you know you are in the presence of the literary. I tried 'Killer 7' for the first time last night, which made me wonder, again, if I was truly in the presence of game Art. The game does not make sense. Anyone of you out there played it yet? In terms of style and narrative it has got Art painted all over it, and, interestingly enough, so seems to be the case with the mechanics and controls. I can't think of any games that made me feel more alienated (yes, that would include Japanese rpgs). Also I am playing the PS2 version, which is clearly the most provocative version (from an unravished point of view) as the loading times alone will make you want to strangle the machine with your bare hands, and the dual shock is suitably useless for on-rails aiming (as opposed to the Gamecube controller for which the game was designed). In other words: finally a mature videogame, which does not yield to the tyrannic imperative of Fun. I hated it. Hereby warmly recommended.
